Jason Terry reaches agreement with Celtics

After 8 years in Dallas as “Steve Nash’s replacement”, sharpshooter JET (Jason Eugene Terry) will be spreading his wings in Boston for the next three years. The Celtics offered Terry the full mid level exception, which comes out to 3 years $15.6 million. Terry is a classic “irrational confidence” guy who does things like tattooing the Larry O’Brien trophy on his arm before the season, or trash talking LeBron James in the NBA Finals. But he’s also a seasoned championship-tested veteran with a deadly jump shot and should help improve Boston’s 25th ranked offense from last year.

The Celtics should now have great depth at the guard spots, with Rondo, Avery Bradley and now Terry and potentially Ray Allen in the rotation. If Allen departs, Terry is a more than capable replacement.

Terry is beloved in Dallas and will likely see his number in the rafters after he retires. The front office decided it was too steep a price (and more importantly, too long a commitment at 3 years) however, and decided to let him go, despite Terry offering the Mavs the right to match the Celtics’ offer.
