***UPDATE*** I got asked where his tweets are if they simply changed account handle. Simply, if you change your handle, while the account still might say “11,000 tweets” when you search through, it will only show tweets by the current handle (again, go try it.)
Got another theory? Leave your thoughts below, I want to hear some crazy stuff!
Of, so firstly, this is more dribble than any kind of informative news or interesting blog but as some twitter users know, Andrew Bogut’s twitter account has been taken over. Hoops.com.au asked a simple question on Tuesday;

Simple question, but why? Well it seems someone ate Bogues’ twitter account…or something possibly not as dramatic. A bit of stellar sleuth work and it would reveal that Andrew’s twitter account which previously held over 100,000 followers and a large sum of tweets, now belongs to “Jordan” who doesn’t seem overly popular, or friendly, or chatty for that matter.

Ok, skip the irony of a basketball players twitter account suddenly belonging to “Jordan” but where did all the followers and tweets go?
Now we look a little bit further. As most know by now, Andrew set up a basketball academy – Andrew Bogut Basketball. A great initiative that is only going strength to strength.
So next I thought I would check the accounts of the academy and One Management – Andrew’s management company. See he was one of the first people they followed, so if I go all the way through their followers, I’d find AB and his presumably new twitter handle. Nothing. Bogues has ventured into the Bermuda Triangle and disappeared.
Now it gets more confusing, as during my search through our followers, I come across @AB_Basketball. Umm ok, I usually am kind of picky who I choose to fill my timeline and I know I’ve followed @ABBball – the account for the academy – for a while, but never heard or seen this @AB_Basketball. Ever more strange, they follow @ANZBallaz, and I don’t remember getting a notification for this account being a new follower. But it’s been active, so have two people from the academy crossed wires and setup two accounts and both active?

The when I go back to check again later, @ABBball has vanished. Eaten…or something.

So we started with @AndrewMBogut and @ABbball. Now we have no @AndrewMBogut and no @ABbball. Ok Mayans, screw you, what is going on?!
Here’s my guess – Bogues has taken time away from twitter, presumably to focus on his injury rehab and getting back on court. We can all be happy for that. In taking his break, and being the astute businessman he is, he changed the twitter handle for his account to @AB_Basketball, since @ABBball was already taken.
See if you go onto twitter.com you can change your handle. Effectively you can change your identity, but still keep all of your followers (go ahead, try it).
So while Bogues takes a break from twitter, he made a smart move by not wasting over 100,000 followers, and effectively gave all those folks to his academy to deliver their message.
So there we have it. I think.
NB: None of this has been confirmed by Bogues, his manager Bruce Kaider, One Management, or the Academy. I just kind of put 1 and 1 and 6.5 together and came up with basketball.
On a serious note though, hopefully things take a good turn for Andrew and he gets on the court for the Warriors soon! Also more importantly, Bogues definitely hasn’t vanished as John Schumann pointed out the other day, Andrew is currently sporting one hell of a beard.
